Dentistry

Pets need dental care just humans do. Without adequate attention, your pet’s mouth can become a haven for bacteria which, over time, can spread throughout the bloodstream and cause serious health problems.

Animal Wellness Clinic’s dentistry services include both routine, preventive care as well as advanced treatment for oral conditions. We recommend that you brush your pet’s teeth regularly and our experienced staff can demonstrate proper technique and give advice on dental products to use.

Signs of dental disease can include:

  • Bad breath

  • Excessive drooling

  • Dropping food

  • Sudden disinterest in chew toys

  • Loss of appetite

  • Swollen or painful face

  • Pawing at the mouth

  • Yellow, broken, loose or missing teeth

  • Gums that are red, swollen or bleeding

A professional dental cleaning should be performed annually. A short-term anesthetic is administered to do the cleaning. Blood tests are performed in advance to ensure your dog or cat is a good candidate for anesthesia. Your pet’s vital signs are monitored by a skilled technician throughout the exam for safety. The full cleaning process includes an examination of each tooth; checking for mobility, fractures and malocclusion; and removing plaque and tartar using hand instruments and power-assisted scaling tools.
