Surgical Care

We treat your pet as if it were our own, so we want to ensure that every surgery performed in our hospital is as stress-free as possible. Whether it’s a routine spay or neuter or a more complex procedure, your pet’s surgery will be our highest priority.

Preoperative screening helps us uncover and prepare for concerns so we can reduce the risk of complications. We will develop a strategy for keeping your pet comfortable and pain-free before, during and following surgery. Animal Wellness Clinic uses the safest, most effective pain control medication and customizes our approach to each patient.

We will administer a light sedative to help your pet relax prior to the procedure. An intravenous catheter will be placed in your pet to provide fluids and medications. An anesthetic will be administered based on your pet’s weight, species, age and breed. During this entire process, your pet is monitored by a highly-trained veterinary technician and monitoring equipment that assesses your pet’s heart rate, blood oxygen level, blood pressure, carbon dioxide levels, and body temperature.

Following surgery, we will gently relocate your pet to soft, comfortable bedding in our recovery area. As anesthesia begins to wear off, our staff will be there to offer comfort and reassurance. We want to make the experience as calm as possible for your pet. We continue to monitor your pet’s vital signs throughout the day to make sure their recovery is smooth and uneventful. We will contact you once your pet is awake and let you know when you can come to pick them up. When you arrive, we will go over aftercare instructions and a plan for pain management.

Soft Tissue Surgery

We perform many types of soft tissue surgeries at Animal Wellness Clinic. Soft tissue surgeries are those that are not associated with bone. These surgeries can provide many benefits to pets.

Our level of surgical expertise ranges from spay/neuter to bladder stone surgery, total ear canal ablation, lateral ear canal resection, amputation, intestinal surgery, splenectomy, tumor removals, perineal urethrostomy and complicated eye surgery. Our veterinarians have extensive experience and advanced training in the most complicated surgeries so that our clients and patients have the peace of mind that they can have everything taken care of with the team they know and love rather than a stranger.

Anesthesia and Patient Monitoring

At Animal Wellness Clinic, we monitor our patients closely to keep them as safe as possible during procedures that require general anesthesia. A veterinary technician will continually assess your pet’s heart and respiratory rate, blood pressure, and other vital signs to help prevent any anesthetic risk.
